Hekate is a fairly well-known goddess and there's quite a few resources out there to learn about her. Here's some links to books/materials I used while completing this blog project: Books: Circle for Hekate-Volume I: History and Mythology by Sorita d'Este Hekate: Liminal Rites: A Study of the Rituals, Magic, and Symbols of the Torch-bearing Triple Goddess of the Crossroads by Avalonia The Temple of Hekate: Exploring the Goddess Through Ritual, Meditation, and Divination by Tara Sanchez Theogony by Hesiod Blogs/Websites: Covenant of Hekate Hearth Witch Down Under Keeping Her Keys (Main Website) Keeping Her Keys (Patheos Blog) I don't have any interesting UPG about Hekate; however, if I uncover something, I will come back and update this page!
I was fortunate to find several good books and articles about Hekate, so I don't feel like I'm missing out on much information. I guess I'd just like to spend time getting to talk to her, just have more time in her presence.
I think the worst misconception I came across was someone gatekeeping Hekate; the person in question basically stated that Hekate was for only older women because she is a crone.
My relationship with Hekate is still in the early stages, so I can't say that there's been much change. I'd like to think I've made some changes in myself, though. I've tried to rededicate myself to pursuing further educational opportunities, be more mindful, spend more time in nature (unfortunately, brutally cold weather is looming), and just overall, work harder at being a better person.
To be honest, I haven't really asked anything of Hekate at this time, as I feel like I'm still trying to build the relationship before expecting any kind of boon.I guess we'll see how this election turns out, because I've been praying pretty hard!
I felt a strong pull from Hekate to cover my head. I don't always find the time to do it; however, when I do manage to cover, I find that I'm less stressed out and I feel more confident. I've also been drawn to geomancy, and by extension, Greek alphabet oracle work by Hekate.
At the center of a triple crossroad
I find her Illuminating all before and beyond her The poison garden The way to the underworld The neglected places The threshold of all Potential reality Torches play at shadow's edge Scant path illuminated An unturned key Chased in pale moon glow A pregnant pause Offering in hand Winds howl and whisper Reshape the world Vision twists Reality bends Every step a precipice Every thought a new path First and foremost is her Orphic Hymn:
I call Ækáti of the Crossroads, worshipped at the meeting of three paths, oh lovely one. In the sky, earth, and sea, you are venerated in your saffron-colored robes. Funereal Daimohn, celebrating among the souls of those who have passed. Persian, fond of deserted places, you delight in deer. Goddess of night, protectress of dogs, invincible Queen. Drawn by a yoke of bulls, you are the queen who holds the keys to all the Kózmos. Commander, Nýmphi, nurturer of children, you who haunt the mountains. Pray, Maiden, attend our hallowed rituals; Be forever gracious to your mystic herdsman and rejoice in our gifts of incense. |
